Alaska to Argentina -

without flying.

An epic trip… without flying.

Hi! My name’s Ryan, and starting this June, for NINE months, I’ll be traveling from Anchorage, Alaska all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina.

I’ll visit nearly every country in North, Central, and South America, making a documentary and portrait series out of everyone I meet along the way.

And I’ll be doing all of this

Without taking a single plane.

Where am I going?

I’ll be visiting ALMOST EVERY country in North, Central, and South America - with the single exception of Venezuela, given the current security situation and travel advisories recommending against travel there.

This is my itinerary, by country!

  • Canada 🇨🇦

  • The United States 🇺🇸

  • México 🇲🇽

  • Belize 🇧🇿

  • Guatemala 🇬🇹

  • El Salvador 🇸🇻

  • Honduras 🇭🇳

  • Nicaragua 🇳🇮

  • Costa Rica 🇨🇷

  • Panama 🇵🇦

  • Colombia 🇨🇴

  • Ecuador 🇪🇨

  • Perú 🇵🇪

  • Chile 🇨🇱

  • Bolivia 🇧🇴

  • Paraguay 🇵🇾

  • Brazil 🇧🇷

  • French Guiana 🇫🇷

  • Suriname 🇸🇷

  • Guyana 🇬🇾

  • Uruguay 🇺🇾

  • Argentina 🇦🇷

But why no flying?

Flying is amazing. Taking planes makes you see more but it also makes you miss a lot more.

We skip over entire towns, regions, stories:

Places most people never get to experience.

So this time…

I’m slowing it down.

Instead, I’ll be traveling in cars.Trains. Boats. Buses.

Just to cross the Darien Gap, I’ll be taking a container ship from Panama to Colombia!

I’ll still visit the region’s big cities – Seattle to Santiago, Calgary to Cartagena – but I’m just as excited about the places people don’t usually post about:

Small-town America.

Andean highland villages.

Amazonian river towns.

…and throughout all of this,

I’ll be making a documentary and portrait series of

all the people I meet along the way.

An acknowledgement of division - a search for unity.

As an American, the last few years have been hard to watch. Families have stopped talking. Friends have stopped being friends. Having honest conversations feels harder than ever.

And I know it’s not just the U.S.

Over the last two years, I’ve worked in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America, trying to understand the institutions that bring countries together. What I’ve seen is that across democracies around the world, we’re more divided than we’ve been in a long time.

So instead of arguing about it online… I want to listen.

On this trip, I’ll be creating a photo series, documentary, and vlog. I’ll be interviewing anyone and everyone – from farmers to financiers – by going from village kitchens to ivory towers.

As I meet people from all walks of life, I want to ask them one central question:

“In an age of division, what

still brings us together?”

This is a project centered around people, in a region I grew up in, have traveled to, and love very dearly.

As an homage to the many faces, personalities, and stories I’ll have the privilege of engaging with, I’ve titled my project:

People of the Americas.
